A Realistic Book Marketing Plan for Your First 90 Days
6 April 2026 · 8 min read
Most launches fail because everything is attempted on one day. Spread the work across ninety days and the results compound.
Days 1–30: get the foundations right
Marketing cannot fix a weak retail page. In the first month, make sure the cover, blurb, categories and keywords are doing their job, because every visitor you send later lands there.
- Rewrite the blurb as a hook, not a synopsis
- Choose categories where your book can realistically rank
- Make sure the look-inside opens on strong, well-formatted pages
Days 31–60: build reader contact
Visibility without a way to stay in touch is wasted. Use this month to grow a mailing list, connect with reader communities in your genre, and reach reviewers and book clubs who read what you write.
Days 61–90: amplify what already works
By now you have data: which posts landed, which audiences responded, which retailers moved copies. Put your budget and energy behind those, and stop the rest.
Sustained, modest promotion over months beats one expensive launch week almost every time.
